Biography

Dr Usman Ullah

Clinical Director & Lead Domiciliary Dentist
BDS (Dundee), GDC No: 113427

Dr Usman Ullah is the Clinical Director and Founder of Care Home Dental, with overĀ 15 years’ experience delivering domiciliary dental care across Scotland, alongside ongoing work as a general dental practitioner.

After graduating fromĀ Dundee UniversityĀ in 2007, Dr Ullah made a deliberate decision early in his career to develop a strong focus on caring for adults who are unable to access traditional high‑street dental services. SinceĀ 2008, he has worked extensively inĀ care homes, patients’ own homes, and complex community settings, supporting individuals with frailty, dementia, physical disability, and advanced medical needs.

Alongside his domiciliary work, Dr Ullah continues to provideĀ general dental care in clinical practice, ensuring his skills remain current across the full scope of primary dental care.

Dr Ullah is anĀ Adults with Incapacity (AWI)–trained dentistĀ with extensive experience in:

  • Capacity assessment
  • Section 47 certification
  • Working with Welfare Powers of Attorney, Welfare Guardians, and Intervention Orders
  • Delivering care that is legally robust, ethical, and inspection‑ready

He works closely withĀ Care Home Managers, Oral Health Champions, nursing teams, and familiesĀ to ensure oral health needs are met safely and in line withĀ Caring for Smiles,Ā Care Inspectorate expectations, and NHS governance.

In his domiciliary role, Dr Ullah provides dental care using aĀ fully equipped mobile dental service, reducing distress, avoiding unnecessary hospital transport, and minimising risk for residents and care staff.

In addition to direct clinical care, Dr Ullah regularly supports care homes with:

  • Oral health assessments for new admissions
  • Ongoing review of residents with deteriorating oral health
  • Practical guidance and confidence‑building for care staff
  • Clear, auditable documentation to support inspections

His approach is calm, patient‑centred, and pragmatic — particularly when working with individuals living with dementia or those who find clinical environments overwhelming.

Care Home Dental was established to provideĀ reliable, dedicated dental supportĀ for care homes and families who need more than a standard dental appointment — they need a service that understandsĀ complex care, legal frameworks, and real‑world constraints.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Domiciliary Dental Care?
Domiciliary dental care (or 'home dental care') is professional dental treatment delivered to patients in their place of residence. This service is designed for individuals who are medically unable to travel to a dental practice, such as those in care homes, sheltered housing, or private homes with mobility issues or complex medical conditions.
Who is eligible for your Domiciliary Dental Service?
Our service is primarily for individuals whose medical or physical condition makes it difficult or impossible to attend a traditional dental practice. This commonly includes elderly patients, those with physical disabilities, those with dementia, or individuals receiving palliative care.
What types of treatments can you provide in a patient's home?
We provide a comprehensive range of services, including:

Routine check-ups, examinations, and oral cancer screenings.

Professional cleaning and hygiene treatments.

Denture checks, adjustments, relines, and repairs.

Simple fillings and minor restorations.

Emergency treatments for pain, infection, or trauma.

Oral health education and advice for patients and caregivers.
Do you bring your own equipment?
Yes. We use portable, state-of-the-art dental equipment, including portable chairs, lights, suction units, and X-ray machines, which allow us to perform treatments efficiently and safely within the home environment.
Can you take X-rays at the patient's home?
In many cases, yes. We utilise portable digital X-ray technology when necessary to help diagnose issues accurately without requiring the patient to leave their home.
